Discreet shopping for intimate products: what to ask before ordering

Choosing an intimate product can raise a practical question: who will see the parcel, and what will its packaging reveal? You can check specific details before ordering. You do not have to work out what “discreet” means on your own.

Distinguish product packaging from the shipping parcel

The box holding the product and the outer shipping packaging can be two different things. When asking about packaging, say which one you mean. For example: “What is visible on the outside of the parcel?” or “Is the product name shown on the outside?”

An AboutHer Instagram post presents the Milk Box as part of the packaging. We do not take that as evidence of what every current shipping label or parcel looks like. If a detail matters to your decision, ask for confirmation before buying.

Prepare three questions for the store

You do not need to explain your personal life or why you want privacy. Straightforward questions are enough:

  • What markings and sender name appear on the outside of the parcel?
  • Which delivery or collection options are currently available for my address?
  • Where can I find current delivery and returns information?

Ask for an answer to your specific question rather than a general promise. If you mean a particular product or delivery method, mention it. Options and terms can vary; this article does not guarantee a particular carrier or delivery time.

Choose where to receive it

At checkout, look at the options actually offered. Consider who has access to the delivery location and who usually receives your parcels. If you are ordering a gift, check who will receive notifications too.

Read the address and contact details before confirming. You do not need to use false information for the sake of discretion. Choose an available delivery option you are comfortable with, or clarify your questions with the store first.

Think about your screen and opening the parcel

If you share a device or email account, consider whether someone else might see the order confirmation. That depends on how you use the device, rather than on the product. Packaging cannot control who has access to your screen.

Once the parcel arrives, choose when you want to open it. You do not have to show anyone or explain its contents. If it is a gift, let the recipient decide how to open it.

Before ordering, visit AboutHer and read the store's current information. You can start by asking about the one detail that is holding up your decision.
